BLUEBERRIES & RASPBERRIES
During the month of July, Isham Family Farm is open for pick-your-own blueberries and raspberries. Blueberry picking continues into August, along with black currants. Quart and pint containers are provided.
Our berries might seem a bit more expensive, but that is because they are a healthier choice for your family being pesticide free! How do we do that? We use a small army of 50 young chickens, of five different varieties, for pest control in the berry patches. The chickens live in a magic “Chicken Tractor” that they drive around the farm at night to find the most plentiful area of bugs. The young chicks love to follow customers and get any bugs that may fall off the bushes.
In keeping with our commitment to creating a healthy environment for the 4 Bs: Birds, Bees, Butterflies, and Bugs, we have never had to spray any insecticides on or around the berries as the chickens do a thorough job of controlling pests. They also keep the ground clean of berries and provide entertainment to customers and small children. Who doesn’t love watching a chicken run across the green grass! We ask that adults do not allow children to chase the chickens.
Please leave dogs at home due to health and food safety regulations.
For this reason, dogs are not allowed around the barn, sugar house and berry patch.
There are picnic tables scattered around the grounds that the public is welcome to use. Families have been known to bring a blanket and also picnic on the lovely green grass of the lawn surrounding the sugar house. Before or after berry picking you may want to hike the 1.3 mile
Oak View Hill Hiking Trail that includes a beautiful pond and wooded knoll with wonderful views of Mt Mansfield. The trails are open year round, also for cross country skiing and snowshoeing, but not to motorized or wheeled vehicles. Plenty of parking is available well away from traffic and the road. Please "carry in, carry out" your garbage.
We had the most amazing experience here. The family is so kind and welcoming. They invited us in to taste syrup and gave us a tour of the property. It is an absolutely beautiful property. The syrup was delicious!!
