A piece of ash wood. I love the coloring in ash, its the prettiest wood and makes gorgeous flooring. When split it smells almost like French fries ! Oak and yellow birch also have very fragrant wood. This piece was from an 83′ tall and 11′ circumference tree that blew over last July 4th wind storm.
I cut and split approx. 30 cords a year on the farm. I use most of that for heating the old farmhouse as well as for hot water. The remainder I use for the sugarhouse and cooking the maple sap down. Between the wood and the solar panels the farm is almost self sufficient.
