This week-end, Saturday Oct 24th I will be giving the last of the public Free wagon rides for the season around the property. Starting at 1pm until 5pm stop on by and take a free wagon ride around the property. I will have the end of the sugar house open, maple syrup will be for sale. Several pumpkins left, $3 for small and $5 for medium and a few large ones left.
The free wagon rides are a thank you for supporting local agriculture whether purchasing at Farmer’s Markets or Farm Stands. Without the public’s help, us farmers would not be able to survive. When my dad was a boy, there were 13 dairy farms operating from the Williston village to Lake Iroquois. When I was a boy I remember 6 dairy farms still in operation on Oak Hill Rd and even a dairy farm at Taft Corners !! Today, there is one farm with cows left, the land is rented by another farmer who keeps his young stock at the farm.
So times have changed. When I was young we had barbed wire and electric fence around our farm to keep the cows in, now we have removed the fences and opened the land to the public. The public have spoken by coming to our farm, spending money and keeping our land, land we all can share open for future generations. Allowing our young to walk the property year round, pick berries, pumpkins, cut a Christmas tree. These wagon rides are just a little bit of my way of giving back. Thank You Public
